Learn about the full Oracle portfolio

Oracle, a US-based company that ranks among the top 10 IT companies in the world, is largely known as a database vendor. It is true that this is the company’s most important product, but they also offer a wide range of other professional business and IT products and services that go far beyond databases.

“Oracle is not just a database company”

Key elements of the Oracle portfolio

  • Hardware
  • Databases
  • Middleware solutions
  • Applications

Target hardware and cloud infrastructure

Whatever the IT system, hardware is always needed. However, hardware is often the stepchild of IT projects because it is too specific for business decision-makers and tends to be neglected or even over-thought. Oracle is aware of this phenomenon and has developed a very wide range of hardware platforms, which can be used to find the ideal solution for every business need.

Oracle’s best-known target hardware is Exadata, which is still considered the fastest, most efficient solution for large database operations, as it is optimized for fast access, simultaneous serving of large numbers of users and storage of large amounts of data. Exadata is widely used in the banking sector or by public institutions, but more and more large enterprises are discovering its potential, especially as the growth of cloud infrastructure has enabled Oracle to run the Exadata platform in the cloud (ExaCS, ExaCC).

It is important to note that in addition to the “OnPrem” servers physically installed at the customer’s site, Oracle also offers private cloud hosting and public cloud services, not only in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, also known as OCI, but also with other public cloud providers such as Azure, as Oracle Cloud is already able to work in an integrated way with Microsoft’s server centers. It is now a world of multicloud, giving users access to limitless capacity, even in an automated way.

Databases

In terms of databases, Oracle’s own database solutions are at the top of the list, available in Enterprise, Standard, Personal and Express licensed versions to ensure that everyone gets the most suitable functionality without unnecessary expenses.

Many people don’t know that Oracle also offers an open source database solution in addition to classic databases, using the globally known and popular MySQL, as the brand and the know-how behind it was acquired by Oracle several years ago. Since then, MySQL has been operating as a separate Oracle division, which has allowed the two database managers to be further developed to easily communicate with each other, and also to develop different licensing versions for MySQL, from Embedded to HeatWave.

And finally, a range of database solutions specifically designed for cloud infrastructures has evolved, which can be a classic Oracle database, a database as a service (DBaaS), a MySQL heatwave or a database using other technologies. Licenses can be provided either as an integrated part of the monthly fee or as BYOL (Bring Your Own License), allowing customers to reuse their existing perpetual database licenses.

Middleware solutions

Middleware is the intermediate layer of complex IT systems that is not yet visible to users, but is already above the raw database layer. In this intermediate layer are located the Oracle systems

  • different data migration solutions, such as Oracle Golden Gate or Data integrator,
  • application platforms, such as Verazzano, Weblogic or Oracle Forms and Report builder,
  • security and identification functions,
  • the complete Oracle database analytics platform
  • Oracle Enterprise Management, which helps you to efficiently manage the operational tasks of the applications in use in your company,
  • and finally the various integration interfaces, the SOA Suite and the Service Bus.

Applications

Only afterwards, we reach the top layer, which is already visible and accessible to users. Oracle has ready-to-use applications for many business functions that can be run efficiently with the hardware and middleware solutions the company offers. These include:

  • Oracle Fusion Applications
  • Oracle Enterprise Performance Management
  • Oracle E-Business Suite
  • PeopleSoft
  • Siebel CRM
  • JD Edwards

Oracle E-Busines Suite (EBS) is Oracle’s own enterprise ERP system that covers all core business processes. The product has evolved continuously since its first versions – following changes in financial, manufacturing and logistics processes. Its great advantage is its flexible architecture, which supports the implementation of individual needs.

This is coupled with Oracle Fusion, a set of cloud-based solutions for a wide range of enterprise processes, written as standard applications that are easily and quickly accessible from the marketplace, and designed to support HR, Finance, CRM, SCM, Procurement, Enterprise Risk Management and Project Management processes, among others. Oracle Fusion has been developed with a complete rethink of business processes, consciously integrating the best practice solutions from People Soft, acquired in 2005, and with it the best practice solutions from JD Edwards ERP systems.

As an Eastern European partner of Oracle Corporation, Datatronic Ltd. is able to implement complex projects based on the Oracle products and services described above, as well as to efficiently operate existing Oracle systems, perform Oracle patches, version changes and updates.
